Drag a box. Choose what happens next.

Cortex sits in Chrome so the question you are looking at never has to be retyped. Press the shortcut, drag a box around it, and pick one of three outcomes.

Chrome 116 or laterManifest V3Alt + Shift + S

The three outcomes

One capture, three things it can become. The popup remembers which you picked last.

Answer here

The question is solved in a panel docked to the page you were already reading. Copy the answer, ask again, or close it with Escape.

Copy a prompt

Cortex turns the capture into a clean, well-formed prompt and puts it on your clipboard, ready for whichever assistant you prefer.

Send to a tab

The capture drops straight into an AI tab you already have open. Destinations you have open are offered first.

Capture is a drag, not a screenshot tool

The overlay dims the page and you drag a box around the part that matters. Capture only what you need: anything inside the box is sent when you choose an outcome that needs an answer.

Auto-Writer types what you wrote

It types text you put in the box into a compatible field at a pace you set, rather than pasting it in one jump. Escape stops it immediately. It only ever types what you supplied, and not every editor on the web accepts it.

What it is allowed to do

Five permissions, each doing one job. Chrome will show you these at install; this is what they mean in practice.

activeTab
Read the page you invoked Cortex on, and only after you pressed the shortcut, clicked the toolbar button or used the right-click menu.
scripting
Put the capture overlay, the answer panel and Auto-Writer onto that page.
storage
Keep your settings, licence key and last result in this browser. Nothing is synced.
tabs
Find or open the AI tab you picked as a destination.
contextMenus
Add the Cortex entries to the right-click menu.

Host access is limited to the five AI destinations you can route to, plus the Cortex backend that verifies your licence. The extension declares no web-accessible resources, so no website can detect it by probing for a known file.

How you get it

Installation happens in the Chrome Web Store and cannot be completed from a website, so this page will link there rather than handing you a file. Once it is installed, paste in the Cortex licence key from your dashboard and the extension is yours to use.

Cortex does not guarantee any detector result, grade or outcome, and Auto-Writer is an input convenience rather than evidence about how a draft was written. Follow your institution's academic integrity policy.

Every interface on this page is a drawing built from the extension's own stylesheet, not a screenshot. Privacy summary
